2023 Ulster GAA Handball Player Academy gets underway in Kingscourt

October 9th, 2023

The first session of the 2023 Ulster GAA Handball Player Academy took place at Kingscourt Handball Club, Cavan, at the weekend.

The boys were first on the schedule with a warm-up session from five-times World Handball Champion Paul Brady, before being put through their paces in intense games by Cavan’s James Brady and Cormac McMahon.  These games were instrumental to the young players with the lads coaching and giving tips to the players throughout their games.

Both the boys and girls were put through a performance-based strength & conditioning session from Ulster GAA Sport Science Officer Eóin McNicholl.

The afternoon session was court time for the girls, who were warmed up by the current One Wall All Ireland champion and Ulster Handball Development Officer Eilise McCrory, followed by games and skill work, with both Eilise and Ulster Handball Development Manager Fiona Shannon.

Big thanks to Kingscourt for the use of their amazing facilities and to all who assisted with the development of the players.

Looking forward to the next Academy session in November.
