Inaugural Jack Henry Memorial Cup blitz held
Ulster GAA held the inaugural Jack Henry Memorial Cup blitz in Omagh Leisure Centre, Co. Tyrone, at the weekend.
The event was a wheelchair football ‘family & friends’ competition, with the Ulster GAA Wheelchair Sports squad forming teams from friends, family and club members to compete against each other.
With the agreement of the Henry family, Ulster GAA is delighted that the cup for the competition was named after their late son, Jack, who sadly passed away over a year ago. Jack loved the sport and would regularly attend the Ulster GAA Wheelchair Hurling competitions and training sessions with his father Brendan and grandfather Eugene.
It was a fantastic afternoon of fun and enjoyable competition, with eight teams from across the province participating in two group sections of four; Clann na Banna, Galbally (two teams), Castlederg, Kinawley, Swatragh, St Paul’s, Ulster All-Stars.
After some exciting group games it was onto the semi-finals, where Galbally beat St Paul’s before Clann na Banna defeated Castlederg.
The final between Galbally and Clann na Banna went down to the wire but it was the Down team who came out as worthy winners, becoming the first Jack Henry Memorial Cup champions.
Jack’s parents Enya and Brendan and their family were in attendance to present the cup to the Clann na Banna team captain Ciaran Bradley.
