Aghagallon St Mary’s know the ‘Scór’!
Tá imeachtaí Scór ag croí an CLG, agus ba léiriú iontach é an campa samhraidh a reáchtáil CLG Naomh Muire, Achadh Gallan ar na mallaibh ar an spraoi a bhaineann leis an taobh seo den chumann.
Aghagallon was proud to host a Scór camp this week, promoting the cultural side of an CLG. Bhí am den scoth ag na páistí agus deiseanna acu Gaeilge a fhoghlaim chomh maith le himeachtaí Scór!
The children had opportunities to learn to play the tin whistle, to learn and sing Amhrán na bhFiann, a range of Irish songs and to learn some traditional céilí dances. D’fhoghlaim na páistí Gaeilge agus tá na huimhreacha agus na dathanna anois ar eolas acu! As well as learning lots of new skills and being immersed in the Irish language, the children experienced friendship, fun and most importantly, Scór. They became more familiar with this aspect of the GAA and the important part it plays in our association.
The St Mary’s club has a rich Scór tradition. They first started taking part in Scór in the early 90s and since then the club has been proud to take home 4 All Ireland titles and 15 Provincial titles. Scór is a huge part of club life.
Club chairman Columb Walsh said:
“Scór gives our club members who are interested in our culture, dance and music the opportunity to represent their club at county, provincial and national level. We have a great history in Scór, our Scór Camp will help develop our young people, giving them the skills and confidence to pull on our jersey and step onto the stage and carry past successes into the future.”
The camp was run by former All Ireland Scór champions and a group of young people who are involved in Scór in the club. These young leaders were enthusiastic volunteers and passed their love of Scór onto the next generation. On the final day of the camp, the Ulster President Ciaran McLaughlin visited Aghagallon and presented the children with certificates. He also praised the young volunteers and said that this volunteerism was central to the GAA.
The Scór camp was only the second of its kind to be run in Ireland, following in the footsteps of Mayobridge GAA who founded the Scór camp a few years ago. Tá dualgas orainn uilig, an ghné seo den Chumann Lúthchleas Gael a spreagadh agus a chur chun cinn. Tá áit dúinn uilig ann.
