New series of Winter Coach Development Programme (CDP) workshops unveiled
A series of Ulster GAA Coaching Workshops are taking place over the coming winter months and into the new year.
The Ulster GAA Winter Coach Development Programme (CDP) is designed to improve coaching knowledge across a number of online and practical modules.

PRACTICAL: Transitioning with Pace and Purpose
Monday 24th March 2025 – 7.30pm-8.30pm
Venue: St Josephs Ederney GAC Co. Fermanagh
Presenter: Steven Poacher
This practical observation session will explore a much talked-about phrase in Gaelic football – the ‘transition’ from defence to attack – and how in game time you can execute the transition with real pace to enable your team gains rich rewards at the opposite end of the field.
Steven Poacher has coached numerous clubs and counties across the country with great success. His knowledge, enthusiasm and passion for our games has helped him get the best out of coaches he has worked with.
PRACTICAL: Attacking Principles in The Modern Game
Monday 31st March 2025 – 7.30pm-8.30pm
Venue: Kildress Wolfe Tones GAC Co. Tyrone
Presenter: Micheal McDermott
This practical observation session will focus on:
- The new proposed rules and how they will impact our game
- Transitioning into scoring areas at pace
- Creating space for attackers to break lines and beating a packed defence/sweeper system
- Aggressive defending and aggressive attacking
- Support play
Micheal McDermott, a native of County Cavan, is a successful club manager/coach who has won county titles in Cavan, Clare, Limerick and Meath, notably bringing Kilmurry-Ibrickane (Clare) to the All-Ireland Club Final in 2010.
