Ballinascreen are Junior Club Hurling champions
Ballinascreen of Derry were crowned the AIB Ulster Club Junior Hurling champions after a ten-point win over East Cavan Gaels on Sunday afternoon.
They proved too strong for the Cavan side, with both sides competing in their first Ulster decider.
Eamon Conway’s goal effort from an early free set Ballinascreen on their way, and their attack opened up an 11-point lead, with Paul Cleary and Conway leading the scoring march. East Cavan Gaels did finish the half strongly, grabbing the final three points to leave eight between the sides at the break.
The Derry men raced out of the traps again in the second half and went on a point-scoring spree to put the game beyond all doubt, Conway, Cleary, Noel Rafferty and Martin Bradley all to the fore.
East Cavan Gaels did make a late charge in the final 10 minutes, rattling off all three of their goals in that period through Rory Farrell, Nicholas Kenny and Killian O’Donnoghue, but Ballinascreen’s commanding lead was never in danger of slipping.
Ballinascreen’s Conway, who finished with 1-7 on the day, grabbed the final point though, giving his side a 10-point win and the provincial title.
