Ulster GAA celebrates Joint Award Successes
Ulster GAA recently hosted an awards ceremony to celebrate all the young people who have achieved either Gaisce – the President’s Award or the Duke of Edinburgh Award in the past year through the GAA.
Avril Ryan from Gaisce – The President’s Award, James McClements and Julie McGimpsey from Duke of Edinburgh Award attended a special presentation lunch to celebrate young GAA members completing bronze and silver awards.
36 young people were awarded – 2 Silver Awards and 34 Bronze Awards – for completing the prestigious programme comprising of volunteers, skills development, physical activity and a hiking and camping expedition in the Mourne mountains.
This brings the total awardees in 2024 to 73 (5 Silver and 68 Bronze), with another awards ceremony being planned for early in the New Year.
Ulster GAA President Ciaran McLaughlin said: “We are delighted to work with Gaisce – The President’s Award and the Duke of Edinburgh Award in delivering the Joint Award to GAA volunteers right across Ulster. This is a great opportunity for young people to get volunteer at their club and developing their skills and knowledge. They also have the added bonus of an expedition to the Mournes which helps them get to know each other as well as learning the importance of teamwork”.
