Ulster GAA recruiting participants for Joint Award Initiative for 2025
Ulster GAA is currently recruiting young participants to its 2025 Joint Award Initiative in partnership with Gaisce – the President’s Award and the Duke of Edinburgh Award.
Young GAA members from across Ulster have an opportunity to sign up for the bronze programme which will require them to complete the following within their GAA Club:
- Volunteering – 1 hour a week for 12 weeks
- Skills development – 1 hour a week for 12 weeks
- Physical Activity – 1 hour a week for 24 weeks
- Expedition – 2 days, 1 night
The young participants will be expected to chart their journey on the online e-DofE platform, and on completion of their activities they must upload an assessor’s report for each section from a club representative to verify that they have completed their activities.
The following activities can count towards each section:
- Volunteering – any help given around the club to include assisting with youth teams, helping to maintain pitch, scoreboard operations, officiating, stewarding, fundraising, tuck shop/catering duties, litter picks, communications etc
- Skills development – GAA courses in coaching, safeguarding, refereeing, leadership, Participation in Scór, learning an instrument, Irish Language classes, attending dance classes. They can also include things outside their club for this to include learning to drive etc..
- Physical Activity – Training and/or playing Gaelic Games. If the young person is a non-player then can count their own personal fitness programme for this to include playing any sport, dancing, walking, running, swimming, cycling etc..
- Expedition – Ulster GAA will be running a bronze expedition in July 2025. For any club who has a group of young people undertaking the programme we can advise on expedition options for the entire group.
The cost to register for the programme is currently £28 rising to £30.50 from 1st April. For those living in Cavan, Monaghan or Donegal the cost if €15. This cost is the registration fee that goes directly to DofE/Gaisce. Expedition costs will be additional to this.

For those who have already completed Bronze/Silver Award and who are interested in pursuing the next level please complete the following form.
Please note Ulster GAA are unable to deliver silver or gold expeditions, so the participant/club would be required to undertake this themselves.
