Young volunteers of St Mary’s GAC Aghagallon were awarded with Sports Inspire Awards at their recent annual club presentation evening, a recognition of the valuable hours the young people have contributed volunteering with their club and how they’ve built their own skills and experience while helping with key tasks.

The Sports Inspire Awards Programme is for young people aged 14-24 years old volunteering in sport.  The Award is jointly administered by Ulster GAA, Ulster Rugby and the Irish FA and is signed off by the Minister for Communities. Awards are presented at 50 hours, 100 hour and 200 hours volunteering.  There are no deadlines, the young people volunteer whatever they can to their club and count their hours along the way.  Each club involved appoints a Sports Inspire Co-ordinator to sign off the hours and to officially request awards from Ulster GAA.

All young people achieving Sports Inspire Award are also awarded with Volunteer Now’s Youth Impact Award – these are great recognition awards for CVs, job applications and university applications highlighting the impact young people can make through volunteering in sport, while developing skills in communication, teamwork, time management and also building confidence and social skills of the young volunteer.
