Ulster GAA was among five governing bodies recognised by Disability Sport NI for achieving the Commit stage of the Inclusive Sport Award recently, highlighting the growing focus on making Gaelic games more accessible to people with disabilities across the province.

As part of the assessment process, Ulster GAA delivered a detailed presentation outlining progress in embedding inclusion within its structures and programmes.

Through its involvement in the award, Ulster GAA’s work has centred on developing inclusive participation pathways, improving access to coaching and club environments, and strengthening its overall approach to accessibility.

Brian McAvoy, Ulster GAA CEO/Secretary commented: “It’s a great honour to have received this award from Disability Sport NI. It’s a great testament to the work that the Ulster GAA Games For All team have been doing throughout the province.

“We have seen a massive increase in clubs becoming involved with Games For All initiatives and establishing their ‘All Star Teams’, and it’s our ambition to keep building on that and growing that level of participation. Our motto in the GAA is ‘Where We All Belong’, and I think it’s important that there is a place in the Association for everyone.”

Kevin O’Neill (Disability Sport NI CEO) commented “We are delighted to recognise the first five sports to achieve the Commit stage of the Inclusive Sport Award. It has been encouraging to see the progress each organisation has made, and the dedication they have shown throughout this journey.”
