Ulster GAA is delighted to offer the Dermot Earley Youth Leadership Initiative to young people aged 15-18 years old.
Participants will complete their two facilitated modules across five days in July (1st, 8th, 15th, 22nd, 30th) in Ulster GAA offices in Armagh.
In August/September, the young people will complete Module 3 independently by completing a community action project back in their club community.
On completion of all three modules, participants have the opportunity to graduate with a Foundation Certificate in Youth Leadership and Community Action, which is accredited at NFQ Level 6 from Galway University, they also receive the GAA Dermot Earley Youth Leadership Initiative Award.
The programme aims:
- To enable young people to develop the skills, inspiration, vision, confidence, and action plans needed to be effective leaders, both on and off the pitch
- To empower young people to make a positive difference to their society through the practice of effective leadership.
The programme will motivate and equip young people to:
- Identify their personal strengths and the motivations that inspire them to become leaders, both on and off the pitch
- Develop a clear vision of what they would like to achieve as a leader
- Develop greater understanding of their style of leadership
- Explore the challenges and difficulties of leadership
- Set clear goals and develop action plans to achieve them
- Develop clear communication skills
- Explain and apply methods of conflict resolution.
- Practice problem solving and critical thinking skills as part of a group
- Explore local, national and global issues
- Identify goals and vision for the future
- Organise and plan a project
This is a fantastic opportunity for young GAA members to develop their leadership skills and gain a University recognised qualification helping them become future leaders in their club and community. Places are limited to 15 and its costs €40 for module booklets.
