Ulster GAA expresses its deepest condolences to the family of James McHugh, CLG Chill Chartha and Donegal, following his sudden passing.
A member of Donegal’s historic 1992 All-Ireland Senior Football Championship-winning team, James represented his county with distinction from 1990 to 1996.
He started at left half-forward in the 1992 All-Ireland Final, scoring a point from play as Donegal defeated Dublin 0-18 to 0-14 to claim the county’s first-ever Sam Maguire Cup.
Alongside his brother Martin, James was named an All Star in 1992. He also won two Ulster Championships, in 1990 and 1992, and a Railway Cup with Ulster in 1994.
At club level with Cill Chartha, James won three Donegal County Championships, in 1985, 1989 and 1993, as well as four Comórtas Peile na Gaeltachta titles.
Our thoughts are with his wife Noreen and we hope and pray that she makes a full recovery from her injuries.
