Lisnaskea School Health Day
Ulster Council GAA ran a Health Day in St Ronan’s in Lisnaskea. The day was aimed at getting the children to learn about all aspects of how they can improve their health and wellbeing. During the day the children were put through their paces with interactive health quizzes, active games so they can think about how their bodies react to exercise and different health activities so that all the children could interact with each other and work as part of a team so they could share ideas.
The children were also treated to having Fermangh player Ryan McCluskey attended as the special guest. 12 Fermanagh clubs benefit from Gaelic Start
Ulster GAA’s Gaelic Start Programme is currently being run out in 12 clubs throughout Fermanagh. The work being carried out by the DENI Schools Coaches, Fermanagh County Coaches and by the enthusiasm of the clubs, parents and volunteers is making it a huge success in the Erne County. The parents of the Lisnaskea Emmetts club recently completed a Foundation Level Coaching Course. The children are loving the expereicne and the fact that they are also doing similar activities in school is making all the difference to the numbers that are attending in the clubs.
Kevin O’Donnell, who is one of the parents who completed his Foundation qualification, from the Lisnaskea Emmetts club commented that, “My daughter absolutely loves it when Thursday comes. She has really come out of herself and she is much more confident. She is making new friends, having fun, gaining new skills and she is doing this with me there with her, which is fantastic for me as a father to see!”
The DENI coaches and County Coaches in Fermanagh, Owen Mooney, Catrina Rodgers, Fabien Burns, Aisling Doonan and Aodhgan Murphy, are currently working together to make sure the quality of the coaching, participation of the parents and the fun the children are having continues. The clubs currently availing of this programme are; Kinawley, Roslea, Lisnaskea, Newtownbutler, Tempo, Ederney, Devenish, Enniskillen, Belanaleck, Derrylin, Belcoo and Teemore.
