The 2014 Féile na nGael competition will take place across Ulster this weekend, from Friday 20th to Sunday 22nd June.

The festivities will begin with simultaneous opening ceremonies at 7pm on Friday evening in the Athletic Grounds Armagh and the Derry GAA Centre of Excellence at Owenbeg, Dungiven. The group stage games will take place in host clubs across the Province on Friday and Saturday, while the competition finals will be played at Tyrone and Derry GAA Centres of Excellence at Garvaghey and Owenbeg respectively.

The international festival of Hurling, Camogie and Handball for both boys and girls, representing clubs from Ireland’s 32 Counties plus overseas units such as London, will feature over 400 games across 7 Hurling and 6 Camogie Divisions.

Running since 1971, the GAA Féile events have the primary objective of facilitating and enabling the personal, social and cultural development of young people. It also emphasises cultural and community activities, leadership and training through sport.

Ulster GAA President Martin McAviney highlighted the significance of Ulster playing host to Féile na nGael:

“Securing Féile na Gael for two consecutive years in Ulster has been a long term goal of our Hurling Development Committee. Ulster GAA are investing significant time and resources into the development of Hurling and Camogie at youth level and this event will serve as springboard to both strengthen and assess our progress. Our plans will see Ulster’s largest ever Hurling and Camogie event organised across one weekend. This will be significant and important milestone in our going Hurling Development plan and I look forward to a great weekend of fun and success.”
