Derry claim Buncrana Cup triumph
Derry claimed the Ulster Under 16 Buncrana Cup title on Saturday as they enjoyed a 1-7 to 0-7 victory over Donegal in Buncrana.
A Darragh Wade goal early in the second half would prove to be the difference between the sides in the closely fought contest. Derry had started the brighter of the sides and led 0-5 to 0-2 at the midway point.
Wade’s goal early in the second half provided the young men from the Oak Leaf county with some breathing space and allowed them hold off the Donegal fightback in the closing stages.
Ulster GAA Vice President Ciaran McLaughlin was on hand to present the Buncrana Cup to the winning Derry captain Mark Doherty.
Elsewhere Tyrone claimed the Under 16 Buncrana Shield title with a comprehensive victory over Monaghan at Glen.
The sides were level at the interval but with the wind at the their backs in the second half Tyrone ran out comfortable winners 3-11 to 0-5, Shea Quinn, Shea Lawn and Dan Muldoon scoring the Red Hand goals.
