Danske Bank O’Doherty Cup quarter-final
Coláiste Ailigh, Letterkenny 2-14 Aquinas Grammar, Belfast 0-8
Second half goals from Ronan Mac Gaoithin and Micheál Mac Suibhne turned yesterday’s Danske Bank O’Doherty Cup quarter-final on its head and sent Aquinas Grammar crashing out of the competition.
In the opening half Aquinas looked the more accomplished team and led by 0-8 to 0-6 at the break with two points each for Conor O’Keefe and Niall McFarland.
Eoin Mac Gaoithin hit a couple of early second half points for the Letterkenny school to level the tie, but it wasn’t until the 39th minute when his brother Ronan found the corner of the net that there was an obvious shift in exchanges.
From that point until the end Coláiste Ailigh were in control and their second goal, finished beautifully by Micheál Mac Suibhne, was on the radar before it arrived in the 49th minute and an all-Donegal semi-final with St Catherine’s Killygbegs beckoned well in advance of the final whistle.
The first semi-final between Ballybay CC and Derry’s Lumen Christi takes place tomorrow (THURSDAY) at 1.45pm in Garvaghey.
