Goals galore in Irish News Cup semi
Danske Bank Irish News Cup semi-final:
St Ciaran’s Ballygawley 8-4 St Joseph’s Coalisland 4-8
Goals win games. The old adage rung through once more in this Danske Bank Irish News Cup semi-final in Garvaghey yesterday as both schools picked off a dozen scores each – but Ballygawley’s eight goals edged them into next week’s decider with St Joseph’s Donaghmore.
Ballygawley had also hit eight in the semi-final earlier in the week and they led 3-3 to 2-4 at the break with goals from Conor McCool, Tiarnan McElroy and Conor Kane.
Jadon Morgan’s strike had put only a point in it before the break and Liam Corr’s goal on the re-start edged Coalisland ahead on the re-start.
There then followed three more goals for Ballygawley and a second Morgan goal for Coalisland as the play swung swiftly from side to side.
Just when it looked as if St Joseph’s were going to make it a tight finish, Conor Kane struck for St Ciaran’s seventh goal and that was quickly followed by their final score, an eighth goal finished by Tiarnan McElroy.
