Omagh wins Corn na nÓg score-fest
Danske Bank Corn na nOg semi final
Omagh CBS 6-15 St Mary’s Magherafelt 5-14
FORTY scores were recorded in a terrific second semi-final of the Danske Bank Corn na nÓg yesterday almost mirroring a brilliant first semi between St Patrick’s Cavan and Maghera back on Wednesday.
Omagh CBS came away from MUSA with a smile on their collective face mainly because they got the early run on St Mary’s Magherafelt and led by 3-4 to 0-6 at the break with goals from Barry McMenamin (2) and Dylan Chism.
However with Ballinderry midfielder Niall O’Donnell in brilliant form, St Mary’s clawed their way back into the game. And it was a goal from Conal Higgins got them up and running.
Ruairí McCullagh hit back with a goal for Omagh before O’Donnell and Higgins netted for Magherafelt to bring them within striking distance.
However the turning point came soon after when a brilliant save from a James Murray effort at one end was turned into an Omagh score at the other and the Tyrone team was able to maintain a gap through to the finish of an exciting game of end-to-end football.
There was time for two goals each during the final quarter and a plethora of points and we are likely to hear a lot more about Omagh’s Ruairí McCullagh, Caolan Donnelly, Conor Owens, Ruairí Cuddy and Callum McGrinder as well as Magherafelt’s Niall O’Donnell, Ruairí Forbes, Conor Higgins and Conchur Johnston.
