Calling all GAA Gaisce/DofE participants
Ulster GAA is organising a canoeing expedition as part of the Joint Award Initiative (Duke of Edinburgh Award/Gaisce the President’s Award) on Saturday 8th and Sunday 9th October.
This meets the Duke of Edinburgh Award/Gaisce Award bronze expedition criteria, and open to all those who have not yet completed their expedition.
For young GAA members not currently registered for the DofE/Gaisce Programme, please email ashelene.groogan.ulster@gaa.ie who will be able to help you get started and provide full details of the programme.
The cost of expedition is £100pp. Places will be allocated on first come, first served basis.
This will be the last opportunity in 2022 to complete this expedition. Full details of the planned expedition as follows:
Saturday 8th October:
10am: Starting Point: Blackwatertown
Meet at the Slipway which can be found behind the Business Centre in Blackwatertown (Hegarty’s Shop, 59 Main St, Blackwatertown, Dungannon, BT71 7HL)
3pm: End Point: Bonds Bridge (the slipway is just past the Argory (Dungannon BT71 6LZ)
Sunday 9th October
10am: Starting Point: Bonds Bridge
3pm: End Point: Maghery Country Park (Derrylee Rd, Dungannon BT71 6NS)
Parents/guardians should drop off participants each morning for 10am and collect at for 2:45pm each afternoon at the stated starting and end points.
This is a canoeing expedition and full training will be given on first morning by a qualified instructed from Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council. They will also be on the water with the expedition groups. All participants will be required to wear a lifejacket for the entirety of the expedition journey. Participants should not enter the water at anytime so this expedition is suitable for both swimmers and non-swimmers.

Following registration, all participants will have to submit parental/guardian permission and will be asked to make £100 payment to secure their place. There is a limited number of places and will be allocated on a ‘first come first served’ basis, so please complete registration as soon as possible and no later than 30th September 2022
