Calling all GAA Gaisce/DofE participants
Ulster GAA is organising a hiking and camping expedition as part of the Joint Award Initiative (Duke of Edinburgh Award/Gaisce the President’s Award) on Thursday 27th July and Friday 28th July 2023.
This meets the Duke of Edinburgh Award/Gaisce Award bronze expedition criteria, and is open to all those who have not yet completed their expedition, aged 15years-24years.
For young GAA memebers not currently registered for the DofE/Gaisce Programme, please email ashelene.groogan.ulster@gaa.ie who can get you started and provide full details of the programme. You will also be able to attend this expedition after registering for the Joint Award Initiative.
The cost of expedition is £65pp (+£25.50 registration fee for the Joint Award Initiative for new participants)
Places will be allocated on first come, first served basis. Full details of the planned expedition as follows:

1:30-2pm: Drop Off and lunch
2pm-3pm: Expedition Training
3pm-4pm: Setting up Camp
4pm-7pm: Tollymore Forest Trek
7pm-8pm: Cook hot camp meal in teams
8pm-9pm: Wash and Ready for Camp
9pm-11pm: Group Camp Fire
11pm: Lights out
Friday 28th July 2023

7:30am-9:30am: Breakfast, Tidy up and Tidy Away Camp
9:30am-12:30pm: Mountain Trek
12:45pm: Pick up
Parents/Guardians should drop you off and pick up at Meelmore Lodge, 52 Trassey Road, Bryansford, Co. Down, BT33 0QB at allocated times
Ulster GAA staff who have been trained as expedition leaders, supervisors and assessors will oversee this expedition throughout.
TO REGISTER: Complete registration form at: https://forms.office.com/e/EXbJTSVtAe no later than 10am on Monday 24th July. A participant and parental/guardian online briefing will be held online on Monday 24th July at 7pm-8pm.
Following registration all participants will have to submit parental/guardian/participant permission and will be asked to make relevant payment to secure place. We have limited number of places so places will be allocated first come, first served so please complete registration ASAP and no later than 10am on Monday 24th July.
Ulster GAA will provide tents, camping stoves, fuel for stoves, sleeping mats, maps, compasses, first aid kits.
Participants will need to bring sleeping bag, torch, food, waterproofs, change of clothes, towel, toiletries – hiking boots/shoes are recommended also as the terrain is uneven.
