John Connolly RIP

March 26th, 2025

It is with deep sadness and a huge sense of shock that Ulster GAA mourns the passing of our esteemed colleague and friend, John Connolly.

John, who served the Ulster Council as Public Relations Officer from January 2013 to January 2016, passed away last night.

Over the years John also acted as Safety Officer and Event Controller at many of our games, and, in particular, at St. Tiernach’s Park in Clones. He was an ever-present at Ulster Championship games for many years, and his lifelong dedication to the GAA at club, county and provincial level was remarkable.

John was a proud member of the Currin GAA club in Monaghan, and served on the club’s Executive for many years, most recently as Chairperson up until last year. Under his stewardship, Currin completed the construction of a new stand which was officially opened in 2023.

He officiated with distinction in many roles in Monaghan GAA, including Vice Chairperson from 2001-2004, Chairperson from 2005-2009, Ulster Council Delegate 2010-2013 and 2019-2020, Coaching Officer 2021-2024, Hurling Committee Chairperson and most recently Assistant Secretary. He was also Monaghan GAA Event Controller at matches.

All at Ulster GAA are deeply saddened by his passing and we offer our deepest condolences to his wife Celine, his children Lorraine and Mark and the wider Connolly family. We remember also his colleagues at Currin GAA and on the Monaghan County Committee.  Our thoughts and prayers are with you all.

Funeral arrangements in the link below, may he Rest in Peace.
