Coalisland Fianna GFC were honoured at the recent Disability Sport NI Awards, in recognition of the club’s exceptional commitment to fostering an inclusive environment for all its members through its All-Stars team.

The Tyrone club accepted the ‘Mainstream Club of the Year’ award at a ceremony celebrating the achievements of teams, organisations and volunteers across the province whose dedication have strengthened disability sport.

Coalisland Fianna club member Amy Toner commented:

“We are over the moon to have received Disability Sport NI’s Mainstream Club of the Year Award. As a community, Coalisland has always strived to include everyone through different projects.

“However, this year we have really pushed for inclusiveness in sport through Ulster GAA’s Games for All initiative, and the joy the All-Stars have brought to our club is amazing.

“We started the process with Shane McCann from Ulster GAA almost a year ago, his experience and calm approach filtered through our volunteers and put them at ease, especially those with no experience of disability.

“Receiving recognition is incredible, especially because so many clubs throughout Ulster are doing such a fantastic job. I would urge every club to take that step in creating a more inclusive sporting environment.”

The Ulster GAA Games for All initiative provides inclusive Gaelic games opportunities for children and young people with a variety of disabilities and learning needs.
