Ulster GAA expresses its condolences to the family of Eugene ‘Nudie’ Hughes, Castleblayney Faughs and Monaghan, following his sad passing.
Nudie enjoyed a distinguished career in Monaghan colours, winning three Ulster Senior Football Championship titles and a National League medal with the Farney County.
He made history in 1979 as Monaghan’s first-ever All-Star and went on to earn further awards in 1985 and 1988. Renowned for his versatility, he was honoured both in defence and attack, first as a corner-back and later as a corner-forward.
Nudie was integral in a golden period of success for his club, Castleblayney Faughs, winning 10 county football titles and two Ulster triumphs, in 1986 and 1991.
He also won a Railway Cup medal with Ulster in the GAA’s centenary year, 1984.
To Nudie’s family and his many friends, heartfelt sympathies are extended on behalf of Ulster GAA.
Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.
