The opening game in Section C of the 2021/22 Danske Bank UK MacRory Cup saw St. Patrick’s Academy Dungannon score a two point victory over Saint Eunan’s College Letterkenny this afternoon in an entertaining game at Naomh Eoghan GAA.
The opening 18 minutes was a close affair, with the teams locked at 0-2 each before the Academy got a crucial break. A length of the pitch move was finished to the net by Tiarnan McVeigh to give the Tyrone GAA men a lead they would never relinquish. Further points from Ryan Donnelly and Enda O’Donnell stretched the lead to 1-4 to 0-2 at the break.
Dungannon extended their lead to six after the break, before the Official Donegal GAA side sparked to life. Points from Max Roarty and Dónal Gallagher were followed by a Gary Kelly goal, closing the gap to a single point with ten minutes remaining.
At this stage it was anyone’s game, but Ryan Donnelly calmed Academy nerves with a free. And although Dónal Gallagher responded with a point, Cormac Devlin made it a two point game just before the final whistle.
