This programme covers the first stage of the new Player Development Pathway (FTEM under F1). A specific programme of skills and activities has been developed on user friendly ‘coaching cards’ for coaches with little or no experience.

The aim of the programme is to support the developmental stages of all children regardless of ability, and to offer a variety of progressive, challenging and fun activities including warm-up, games and skill-development activities.

The advantage to club coaches is that all activities can be set up quickly and easily involving large or small numbers. All clubs should be planning their ABC’S of Movement programmes on the run-up to the Christmas period as this is an ideal time of the year to be working inside.

The ABC’s of Movement programme benefits parents and coaches in that coaches are learning new activities and improving their coaching skills through the interaction of Ulster GAA Key Stage 2 coaches. Coaches can be better managed as the club can be assured the coaches are delivering a standardised programme. A measure of the success of the programme will be continued parental involvement in club activities, as they hopefully will become future coaches. It also encourages children and their parents to play together away from the club setting.
