Ulster GAA - Young Leader Programme 2019

Young Leaders Programme

Ulster GAA Young Leaders Programme targets outstanding young GAA volunteers from across Ulster’s nine counties. This is an exciting and innovative programme aimed at young GAA members to build their skills and knowledge to help them become Young GAA Leaders.

Ulster GAA has opened applications for its prestigious Young Leaders Programme for this year.

Young GAA members aged 16-24 years old are welcome to apply for a place on the 2022 Programme full of activity.  Applications must be submitted by 12 noon on Monday 20th June 2022.

Launching the 2022 Young Leaders Programme, Ulster GAA President Ciaran McLaughlin said:

“This Programme has developed over the last few years into a comprehensive learning and fun experience for young Gaels interested in improving their knowledge, skill and experience in Gaelic Games.

“The Programme builds capacity of young volunteers and encourages them to actively volunteer in their own club.  This means both the young person and their club benefit greatly from their involvement.  I encourage young GAA members to get their applications in by the deadline as this is always a very popular programme.”

The 2022 Ulster GAA Young Leaders Programme takes place over a six-month period and includes:

  • Three Day Young Leaders Academy – July
  • Two Day Canoeing Expedition – July
  • Online Workshops – July/August
  • Volunteering in your club – 12 weeks throughout July, August, September
  • Participating in Gaelic Games/fitness in your club – Six months (can be backdated to May 2022)

The young participants who must be aged 16-24 years old will achieve the following awards through the Programme:

  • GAA Foundation Coaching Award
  • GAA Safeguarding Award
  • Sports Inspire 50 Award
  • Youth Impact 50 Award
  • Duke of Edinburgh/Gaisce Bronze Award

Participants are asked to bring their own packed lunch and healthy drinks to each activity.  This is a FREE programme delivered by Ulster GAA, however those wishing to complete the canoeing expedition will be charged £100pp to cover water sports training and two day expedition, equipment, instructor etc..

We highly recommend participants completing the expedition as this is a requirement for the final Duke of Edinburgh/Gaisce Award.
