March 28th, 2013

derry-urban-schools-camogie-march-2013Over a period of 6 weeks Ulster Camogie RDO Ross Corbett has been delivering Camogie coaching in 4 schools in Derry City aimed at improving the participation levels in the City. The programme has been supported by the Na Magha Camogie club with St Cecilia’s, St Mary’s College, St Brigid’s College and Thornhill College all taking part.

The culmination of the Urban Schools Programme took place on 13th March with all the schools participating in a blitz. The blitz took place on the 3G pitch in St Marys College. There was over 50 girls from 3 schools participated in the 6 a side blitz with each team getting 6 games. Well done to all the girls who participated and made the programme such a success.

A massive thank you to Paul Callaghan, Enda Mc Dermott and Sharon Mc Cullagh for all their help in organising the blitz. Also a big thank you to teachers Katherine Green, Jenny Martin and Isobel Mc Nulty for organising their schools on the day.

Hopefully the programme can lead to increased participation in the city and in the schools system in the city.
