Féile Uladh 2010

May 5th, 2010

The first Bank Holiday Weekend in May means two things; Sunshine and Féile Uladh.  For the 2010 competition, the Ulster Council decided to split the event over 2 days.  The Group Games being played on 1st May, and the Finals being played two weeks later on Saturday 15th May.

The Reasoning being to provide more playing time for the children involved.  Groups were increased in numbers resulting in every team playing a minimum of 120mins (2hrs).

In 2010 there was no host venue for Féile resulting in the group games being regionalised to cut travel time down for most clubs.  Although County Armagh and in particular the Pearse Óg club will host the Finals Day on 15th May.

Again another record was broken this year with 88 teams (86 in 2009) and 1,848 players plying their trade with the Cáman and Sliotar.

A special thank you must go to the Parents and Coaches for your work, which was a credit to you with the way the young players played our beautiful game.  To all the Referees thanks, for their time and effort, as without them the 176 games played on the 1st May would not of been possible.

Féile gives the opportunity to teams to play against clubs they don’t usually get a chance to and is about participation more so than winning, although on May 15th there will be winners there will certainly be no losers; the main winner is Gaelic Games and in particular Hurling and Camogie.
