Donegal lift inaugral Andrew O’Neill Cup
All-Ireland U21 ‘C’ Hurling Final:
Donegal 1-11 Tyrone 0-11
Donegal U21 Hurlers have collected the All-Ireland U21 ‘C’ Hurling title, courtesy of a late goal in a pulsating final at Celtic Park Derry.
In a game where the teams matched each other point for point for 60 minutes, it took a late goal from a 20 metre free and some resolute last ditch defending for Donegal to see off Tyrone.
Donegal have become the first County to lift the Andrew O’Neill Cup, named after a young hurler from the Naomh Colm Cille club in Tyrone, who died tragically in Liverpool earlier this year. Andrew’s family were on hand to present the trophy.
Donegal now face Mayo in the U21 ‘B’ Quarter Final on the weekend of the 8th / 9th August.
