Senior Inter Firms All Ireland Semi Final
Kingspan (Cavan) 2-09 v 3-16 Intel (Kildare)
Kingspan (Cavan) played Intel (Kildare) in Kingscourt last Thursday (February 2nd) in the Senior Inter firms All-Ireland semi-final.
The wet and windy conditions played their part on the night. After only 10 minutes a Kingspan defender fell foul of the black card rule. Intel took advantage and scored the goal from the penalty spot.
Despite this setback Kingpsan reshuffled the defence and after a closely fought first half Intel led by the bare minimum, 2-07 to 2-06 at half time, with Kingspan’s goals scored by Colin Woods and Daryl Martin. With the wind at their back and Longford’s Paul Barden in sparkling form at centre half forward, a strong second half performance by the visitors resulted in Intel emerging victorious at Pat McEnaney’s full time whistle. Final score was 3 -16 to 2-09. They now proceed to the All-Ireland senior final where they will face either Leibherr (Kerry) or Mayo Teachers.
In the All-Ireland Junior semi-final Heron Bros (Derry) will carry the fight forward for Ulster when they face Leinster champions Kerry Foods (Wicklow) in the next few weeks.
