Michaela Foundation Wings Award to celebrate young people in the community

February 9th, 2018

We hear so many ‘bad news’ stories about a small percentage of our youth but the Michaela Foundation would like to turn this around and celebrate our young people who are motivators within their local community –

#CelebrateMotivateInspire

Celebrating those determined to fly.

Awarding young people who are motivators within their local community.”

DO YOU KNOW SOMEONE WHO

• Has went above and beyond for their local sports/music/drama group

• Sacrifices their time to help with youth/church/elderly

• Works tirelessly to fundraise

• Is a young carer

• Inspires others to get involved within their community

• Shines in a particular area

• Has overcome adversity

A ‘Wings Award Winner’ can be male or female and they do not need to have any previous experience with Michaela Foundation.

THREE AGE CATEGORIES FOR AWARD:

• Age 11-13 (£250)

• Age 14-16 (£250)

• Age 17-24 (£250)

Nominate someone you think is deserving of this award, letting the Michaela Foundation know how they merit winning this award and include a letter of support from a school, church, club, employer or other organisation.

A shortlist of 10 commendable entrants in each age group will then be created. The Michaela Foundation will contact them and give them a submission date to let the Foundation know how they intend to spend their award bursary (be it for equipment, helping with a fundraiser, towards a fun day for local community etc.). From this, the Michaela Foundation will choose the three award winners. All 10 finalists in each age group will be invited along to the awards night on Thursday 12th April, in the Great Hall, Queens University to celebrate all their achievements.

At this event, the three award winners will be announced in each age group category. Winners will receive a cash bursary of £250 plus a custom-made O’Neill’s half zip top.

In return, each recipient will feature in video blogs throughout the year, documenting their achievements and how they’re utilising their bursary.

The Wings concept is something I created in order to support young people who were either determined to, or already had achieved great things in whatever passion they have in life. Our whole ethos is ‘Life Without Limits’ so we wanted to recognise  and award people who are going out and actively living that ethos through using their God given skills and talents to the best of their ability. We are encouraging young people to use their wings and fly, get out there and show the world what they’ve got! By using our promotion and platforms, we can share their stories and positively inspire more and more young people” explains Director John McAreavey.
