THERE were wins for St Colman’s Newry and St Columba’s Portaferry over two Armagh schools in yesterday’s knock-out stages of the Danske Bank MacFarlane Cup.
Competition favourites St Colman’s eased home to a comfortable victory over St Patrick’s Keady in the first of the semi-finals in Ballymacnab.
Indeed the Newry school was well in control at the break with strong performances from James Duggan, Darragh Rodgers and Micheal Rice.
They consolidated their position with two quick Rice goals on the re-start with the result that Tomas Gallon’s goal in the 51st minute made little impact on the score-board.
The last of the quarter-finals saw another comfortable victory, this time for St Columba’s Portaferry over St Patrick’s Armagh.
Early goals from Déaglán Mallon and Michael Doran put the Ards’ side in control of the game and they continued to pull away at the start of the second half with a second goal from Doran and then a good individual goal from Ethan Savage to set up a semi-final at the start of the week with St Mary’s Magherafelt.
