Ulster GAA celebrates World Down Syndrome Day
Ulster GAA President Ciaran McLaughlin and Vice Chairperson Michael Geoghegan were delighted to mark World Down Syndrome Day 2023 recently with Joe Brown from Ballycran GAA.
Joe has been participating in the Sports Inspire Awards Programme and has achieved 200 hours volunteering in his club. He is a valued member of Ballycran, helping out with care taking duties including pitch maintenance as well as volunteering as a hygiene technician support worker and helping the club at all key events. A keen ticket seller, Joe helps raise much needed funds for club and county.
Ulster GAA President Ciaran McLaughlin commented:
“Joe Brown’s contribution to Ballycran GAA and Down GAA is outstanding. He gives of his time freely and is loved by everyone at the club. He is quite the character and his involvement in the club ensures he is a valued member of the community, fully participating and inspiring others.
“On World Down Syndrome Day, it is so fitting, that Joe was awarded his Sports Inspire Award for 200 hours volunteering. He is an inspiration to us all and I thank Ballycran GAA for their practical demonstration of inclusivity, showing that there really something for everyone in the GAA.
“Well done Joe, and well done Ballycran GAA. GAA for ALL at its very best!”
