Ulster GAA Young Leader picks up August Translink Young Volunteer of the Month award
Nineteen-year-old Liam O’Brien from Thomas Davis GFC/Craobh Rua Camlocha in Co. Armagh has been awarded the Translink Ulster GAA Young Volunteer of the Month award for August 2024.
The award is presented each month to young volunteers whose efforts best demonstrate the volunteering ethos and community spirit of the GAA.
Liam contributes massively to the GAA, putting in many hours of volunteering each week across underage coaching, umpiring, administration, facilities maintenance and fundraising, as well as representing Thomas Davis as a County Board Delegate. When there is a job to be done, he is the first to put his hand up and get stuck in.
This summer Liam was also selected to participate in the Ulster GAA Young Leaders Programme, an exciting and innovative programme aimed at young GAA members to build their skills and knowledge to help them become leaders in their clubs.
Presenting Liam with his award, Ulster GAA Public Relations Officer Michael McArdle said: “Liam epitomises all that is good within the GAA. His sterling volunteering efforts are an absolute credit to himself and his family. He really showcases the monumental impact young volunteers can make within the GAA, both within their clubs and county. Keep up the good work Liam!”
Greg McLaughlin, Translink Service Delivery Manager, commented: “We are always very impressed with the standard of applications to our Monthly Award. It is clear that many young people are doing great work helping out in their clubs and I congratulate all of them.
“Liam is a very deserving winner. The amount of volunteering this young man does is extremely impressive and we have no doubt that his clubs and county benefit greatly from Liam’s efforts, and other young volunteers like him.”
