It is with deep sorrow that Ulster GAA mourns the loss of our esteemed colleague and friend, former Uachtarán Comhairle Uladh, Miceál Greenan.
Miceál served as the 32nd President of the Ulster Council GAA from 2004-2006, after two separate periods as a member of the Council, and represented Ulster as the delegate to the National GAA Games Administration Committee.
Miceál was a former player with the Drumalee GAA club in county Cavan, winning Junior and Intermediate Championship medals during his playing career. He also represented Cavan at inter-county level and played in three Ulster Senior Football Finals from 1967-1969, winning two. He had a distinguished career as a referee at club and county level, and took charge of three Senior provincial finals, in 1985, 1986, and 1989.
As a member of Cavan County Board, he held a number of roles, including Secretary from 1976 – 1981, and was also a selector with the senior football team in 1976, 1978 and 1983. He holds the unique distinction of presenting the Anglo Celt Cup three times in Croke Park during his term as Uachtarán Comhairle Uladh.
Ulster GAA expresses profound sorrow at Miceál’s passing and we extend our deepest sympathies to his wife Carmel, his children, Sonia, Cara, Aoife, Michael, Donal, his brother Eamonn, his sister Noreen and the wider Greenan family circle during this time of great loss. We remember also his colleagues at Drumalee GAA and in Cavan GAA. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all.
