Essential Training for Club Officers announced for 2026

Ulster GAA has launched its 2026 Club Officer Training Programme, to help support and advise Club Officers in their official roles over the coming year.

The Training Programme is a must for all NEW Club Officers, as it provides a solid learning base for each of the 9 main officer roles within clubs (Chairperson, Secretary, Treasurer, Communications Officer (PRO), Coaching Officer, Children’s Officer, Irish Language & Cultural Officer, Development Officer and Health & Wellbeing Officer).

Existing Club Officers are also welcome to attend sessions, and this online training is available across all our codes, so everyone is welcome.

The training begins in early 2026 with two sets of training:

  • Club Officer Induction Training: This is role-specific training which sets out your key duties and responsibilities as an official club officer. These sessions are essential for all those new to their role in 2026 and will provide an excellent opportunity to explore key issues so that you have the knowledge and understanding to face the year ahead.
  • Club Officer Development Training: This is issue-specific training and is open to all members of GAA club committees/volunteers. We have two sessions this year, one focussing on volunteer development (Recruiting, Retaining and Recognising Volunteers) and Health and Wellbeing in your Club (exploring how your club can offer more health & wellbeing activities)

This training is delivered in partnership with the National Club Leadership & Development Programme.  This will streamline all training for club officers to minimise the demands on the time of club volunteers, while still providing high quality essential training to empower club officers in their roles going forward in 2025.

Encouraging Clubs and Volunteers to sign up for this training, Ulster GAA President Michael Geoghegan said, “Ulster GAA is here to support clubs and volunteers, and one of the key ways for us to do that, is by providing high standard of training. Our Officer Training Programme has become a staple for Club Officers across the nine counties.  Its delivered right at the start of the year, so that club officials can get off to the best start. All workshops are available online, to reduce the burden of travel time on volunteers, and means you can access this training right from your own home.

“Club Officers who have completed the training in previous years, have highlighted its importance and relevance to their role providing essential information, contacts and plenty of space for discussion and exploration of issues.  We encourage all club officers to attend, especially those new to their roles in 2026.”

Training is open to all, including LGFA and Ulster Camogie Clubs, with all workshops online.  Registration is essential and full details with registration links can be found at ulster.gaa.ie/officertraining.
