Conor McGurk Cup Final
Derry 1-14 Donegal 0-16
Celtic Park
Derry produced a stunning last-gasp escape to snatch the Conor McGurk Cup from Donegal in Celtic Park on Saturday afternoon.
Donegal appeared certain to secure a third successive title as they led 0-16 to 0-14 with time almost expired. However, a late free on the Donegal 21-metre line handed Derry one final chance and Christy McNaughton seized it, rifling the sliotar to the net in the 63rd minute to break Donegal hearts.
It was cruel on Donegal, who had been the better side for much of the contest, and joyous for Derry, who battled relentlessly to the final whistle in a thrilling decider.
Gerry Gilmore was outstanding for Donegal, finishing with nine points, including two astonishing efforts from close to 90 metres, and deservedly claimed man-of-the-match honours. Patrick Turner was equally influential for Derry in a game where both teams struck 10 wides.

Donegal led 0-10 to 0-7 at half-time and extended their advantage after the break, at one stage opening a 0-15 to 0-11 lead. McKinney, Gartland and Gilmore drove them on, while an early point after just 10 seconds set the tone for their fast start.
A crucial moment came in the 13th minute when Derry goalkeeper Eoin Mulholland denied McKinney with a superb save that prevented Donegal from opening a commanding lead. Derry gradually grew into the game and stayed in touch through scores from Fintan Bradley, Shea Cassidy and Declan Foley.
Gilmore continued to punish Derry with long-range frees and points from play, and when he converted a brilliant sideline free late on, it looked to have sealed the victory.
Instead, Derry summoned one final surge. McNaughton’s dramatic goal turned despair into elation and ensured the Conor McGurk Cup would remain in Oak Leaf hands after a remarkable finish.
