Twenty-four-year-old Bronagh McAneney from Kilcoo Owen Roes GAC in Co. Down has been awarded the Translink Ulster GAA Young Volunteer of the Month award for October 2025.
The award is presented each month to young volunteers whose efforts best demonstrate the volunteering ethos and community spirit of the GAA.
Bronagh is a highly valued member of the Kilcoo club, contributing both on and off the field. A dedicated dual player, she is also deeply involved in supporting the club’s underage structures.
She joined the club committee several years ago and currently serves as Assistant Treasurer, a role in which she consistently demonstrates commitment and reliability. Bronagh plays a key part in the club’s fundraising efforts, including the County Club Draw, Friends of Kilcoo Golf Classic, weekly lotto ticket sales and more recently as a core member of the team managing the Development Draw.
Beyond this, Bronagh assists with bookings for the community centre and is always on hand on match days, regularly helping out in the club shop.
Presenting Bronagh with her award, Ulster GAA CEO/Secretary Brian McAvoy said:
“Bronagh is a wonderful example of dedication, teamwork and selfless volunteerism. She consistently goes above and beyond for Kilcoo, committing her time and energy to supporting fundraising initiatives and enhancing the sense of community within the club.
“Her hard work and commitment make a real difference to Kilcoo. I congratulate Bronagh and all of the young nominees who continue to exemplify the core values of the GAA.”
Ruairi McGivern, Senior Inspector at Translink, added:
“At Translink, connecting people and communities across Northern Ireland is at the heart of what we do. It’s inspiring to see that same spirit reflected in the winners of the Translink Ulster GAA Young Volunteer of the Month award.
“Young people like Bronagh continue to show just how powerful volunteering can be, making a real difference both within their clubs and across their local communities. Congratulations to Bronagh on her well-earned achievement.”
