Hardworking young coach wins Translink Young Volunteer for October
A dedicated young volunteer has won the Translink Young GAA Volunteer of the Month for October in recognition for her unwavering support and assistance to her club.
Sarah Leonard, from St Brigid’s Ladies, impressed the judging panel with her patience, dependability and hardwork, even during exam time!
Speaking on the award nomination, Oliver Galligan, Ulster GAA President, said:
“There are so many inspirational young people who gave their time freely to help develop underage structures in their clubs. Sarah Leonard is one such volunteer, who despite a hectic studying schedule, finds the time to help with coaching and mentoring U8 and U10 girls at St Brigid’s. Young people like Sarah make such an important impact on their clubs, and we are delighted to continue to highlight and reward their efforts.”
Presenting Sarah with her award, Sean McGreevy, Translink, said:
“Translink is delighted to play its part in shining a light on the contribution young volunteers make in their community through the GAA, and I am pleased to present Sarah with this award, recognising her positive volunteering efforts at St Brigid’s GAA, Belfast. It is encouraging to see a young woman who supports her club and inspires many younger players.”
Noreen Courtney, Chairperson of St Brigid’s Ladies, said,
“We are so proud that Sarah’s efforts have been recognised with this prestigious award – she really is a worthy winner. Sarah has been a dependable coaching volunteer with our U8 and U10 girls every Sunday this year. Even during exams, she gave time back to the club being prepared with drills and giving words of encouragement to the girls. The players enjoy Sarah as an assistant coach, providing them with a role model and displaying attributes such as patience, dedication, dependability and above all, fun!”
