Doire Football Championship kicks into high gear

The O’Neill’s Derry Senior Football Club Championship has reached the last eight, with a mouthwatering set of quarter-final games taking place this weekend. Magherafelt put their title on the line when they face Enda McGinley’s Swatragh on Saturday afternoon, and later that evening Ballinderry and Ballinascreen will lock horns in front of the live streaming cameras at Celtic Park at 5:30pm. Both sides will fancy their chances of a place in the semi-final draw. Watch the game here.

On Sunday, Eoghan Rua will look to embellish their strong recent Championship pedigree when they take on Paddy Bradley’s Loup, before the eagerly-awaited clash between neighbours Glen and title favourites Slaughtneil takes centre stage at Celtic Park at 4:30pm; another game that will be streamed live on the #WeAreDerry platform.

With the Intermediate quarter-finals also scheduled for this weekend, and the closing stages of the group stages in the Junior Football Championship, an exciting few days in the Oak Leaf county awaits.

Slaughtneil secure eighth successive Derry hurling crown

A dominant second-half performance at a blustery Celtic Park saw Slaughtneil secure their eighth successive Leadon Timberframe Derry Senior Hurling Championship crown, against Kevin Lynch’s last Sunday (Kevin Lynch’s 0-11 Slaughtneil 0-23).

Captain Cormac O’Doherty notched 0-12 for the Ulster champions as they overcame a slow start against a stiff breeze to muscle their way past the Kevin Lynch’s challenge.

The sides were level at half-time, 0-7 a-piece, but with the wind advantage in the second period, Robert Emmett’s never looked like losing their crown.

On Saturday at Celtic Park, Swatragh won the Intermediate Final with a five-point victory over Ballinascreen (2-13 to 2-8), while Lavey had a three-point win over Banagher to claim Junior honours (2-13 to 0-16).
