Cumann Lúthchleas Gael Uladh
Ulster GAA is advising all our units to organise their Go Games with Positive Sidelines.
Positive sideline behaviour is important for maintaining an enjoyable sports environment for our young Gaelic games players. Children perform better and enjoy sports more when coaches and parents offer positive support, rather than feeling pressure from the sidelines.
The main points are as follows:
No coaching or shouting instructions from the sidelines please, parents. Instead of coaching, clap and cheer positively for your child and their teammates, praising their efforts during play
Coaches constantly shouting instructions is distracting and confusing for young players. Allow them to make decisions – this is how they learn. Give appropriate feedback at breaks in play
They are volunteers and have stepped up to allow our games to take place. We can all make mistakes, so coaches and parents, please think before you speak to or disrespect the officials
All parents, family members and supporters should stay outside the pitch fence and enjoy the games. All coaches should keep behind the white lines and off the field of play, unless a player is hurt or distressed
When interacting with others at a game, use common sense and act in a sporting manner to represent your club. Use appropriate language with players, coaches, officials and parents/spectators. Don’t embarrass your child or yourself
Adults should be a part of the game – but not take over it from the children. It’s their game – let them play!
