A new ‘How to’ guide for clubs to run their own Game of Three halves event was launched on Wednesday 22nd May by the Irish FA, Ulster GAA and the IRFU (Ulster Branch) at their ‘Together Through Sport’ event held at the Oakgrove College, Derry. This event forms part of the wider DSD funded ‘Sport in the Community’ partnership project between the three codes which supports a range of joint development programmes, such as shared learning workshops, club development programmes, community outreach initiatives, neighbourhood renewal and volunteer development.

This joint good relations event showcased some of the existing work that clubs and community groups are doing to promote good relations in their area. Craig Gilroy (Ulster Rugby), Daniel Lafferty (Irish FA) and Colm McCullagh (GAA) all attended the event and spoke openly and frankly about their sporting experiences, giving their support to the Game of Three Halves.

John Mitchels GAC Claudy, Ophir Rugby Club and Eglington Eagles FC shared their first-hand experiences of how working together has helped in the day-to-day running of their clubs.

Speaking at the event Trevor Ringland from Sport 4 Change said: “This is a great resource that will help clubs build relationships across the community including other sporting codes, schools, churches and community groups. This event provided a platform for clubs and community groups to share the work they are doing to build a new and positive legacy for Northern Ireland.”

Game of Three Halves
The Game of Three Halves (GO3H) emerged from the efforts of various community and sporting organisations working at a grass roots level across Northern Ireland and has been developed further by the Sport 4 Change group. Sport 4 Change is an umbrella forum established by the Irish Football Association (IFA), Ulster Gaelic Athletic Association (UGAA), Irish Rugby Football Union (IRFU) Ulster Branch and PeacePlayers International – Northern Ireland (PPI-NI) to promote diversity and good community relations through sport.
