Enniskillen loss but still progress in MacRory

The result of yesterday’s Danske Bank MacRory Cup tie in Clogher was probably as good as a win for both St Ciaran’s Ballygawley and St Michael’s Enniskillen.
Despite defeat St Michael’s are through to the after-Christmas series, while St Ciaran’s put the disappointment of the last two outings behind them to record their first win of the series and set up a play-off with St Malachy’s Castlewellan to remain in the competition.
Enniskillen played with the strong wind at their backs in the opening half and led by 0-7 to 0-4 at the break with Conor Love hitting three of the scores, while Darragh Canavan accounted for all four Ballygawley points.
For the second half, St Michael’s packed their defence and only scored on the break with Love and John Reihill adding just two points.
As the half wore on, it was obvious that St Ciaran’s patience and perseverance would pay dividends as they tapped over the points, Cormac Donnelly’s free eventually putting them ahead.
Canavan added another and Donnelly his second, but Enniskillen simply weren’t going to concede enough to put them out of second spot in the group.
When the final whistle did arrivee, it was Enniskillen who raised the biggest cheer having lost the battle but won the war.
