Keady take advantage of red card
Danske Bank Markey Cup quarter-final
St Patrick’s Keady 4-8 Coláiste na Carraige 1-7
The two yellow cards dished out to Coláiste na Carraige centre-forward and Donegal panellist for the McKenna Cup, Lanty Molloy, had a huge impact on this Danske Bank Markey Cup quarter-final played at Bawnacre yesterday.
Keady started off fine and scored the opening 1-1 with Reece Butter the goal scorer. However the south west Donegal men gradually got to grips with the game and 1-4 from the impressive Aaron Doherty put them ahead by 1-5 to 1-2 at the break.
Keady again started the second half well and once more Reece Butter was able to find the net and narrow the gap to a single point.
However the result probably hinged on that second yellow card for Molloy. His absence seemed to slow Coláiste na Carraige’s running game while Keady grew in stature with substitute Joe Sheridan making a big impact setting up a late goal for Odhrán Doyle and pointing twice himself while captain Jim Shortt put in a good shift.
Doyle’s goal came late on and was quickly followed by another from Tiernan O’Neill that sealed Keady’s passage to Tuesday’s semi-final.
St Patrick’s : Reece Butter 2-1, Odhran Doyle 1-0, Tiernan O’Neill 1-0, Paul Greene 0-2, Joe Sheridan 0-2, Louis Hughes 0-2, Sean óg McGuinness 0-1.
Coláiste na Carraige : Aaron Doherty 1-5, Oran Ó Dúgáin 0-2
