GAA Representatives Meet PSNI Chief Constable

A GAA delegation met with the PSNI Chief Constable Jon Boutcher today at Ulster GAA Headquarters in Armagh.

The delegation of Officers and staff, which included GAA President Jarlath Burns, Provincial Secretary Brian McAvoy and Geraldine McKavanagh, covered a range of issues, including GAA Community Outreach and matters of particular concern to the Association.

During the visit the Chief Constable was presented with an Ulster GAA jersey.

Following the visit GAA President Jarlath Burns said:

“We were delighted to welcome the Chief Constable to Armagh to discuss matters of importance to the GAA and our ongoing initiatives. We covered a broad range of areas, including policing and wider societal issues, legacy and a number of GAA programmes.”

Reflecting on the meeting Provincial Secretary Brian McAvoy said:

“This was an important opportunity to directly engage with the Chief Constable in a positive and constructive manner, apprising him on the GAA and our work in the community.  We also discussed wider outreach initiatives and the policing of major events. Ulster GAA will continue to engage with the PSNI to develop our relationship in the future through meaningful communication and collaboration in areas of mutual interest.”

The Police Service of Northern Ireland Chief Constable Jon Boutcher said:

“I was delighted to get the opportunity to meet with the President of the GAA, Jarlath Burns, along with the Provincial Secretary of Ulster GAA, Brian McAvoy, today.

“Over the last number of years, the Police Service of Northern Ireland has worked with Ulster GAA on a number of initiatives including the ‘Share the Road to Zero’ road safety campaign and the ‘One Punch Can Kill’ programme. We will continue to work with the GAA and other stakeholders as part of our outreach approach to engage with our communities across Northern Ireland.”
